The industry is facing increasingly stricter environmental regulations and has started to undergo a green transition as a result. It could also become very expensive, particularly for ships sailing into or from European ports, as the EU is planning to make polluting ships pay. More sustainable fuels are needed if the maritime industry is to reduce its climate and environmental footprints. Ships will also need innovative new technology to use these fuels. Many of these technologies already exist, and those being the first to install them will be at a competitive advantage.
